Six to Eight Weeks Before Moving Day
To ensure an easy and organized move, it’s ideal to start planning your move at least six to eight weeks before the big day. Here are some tasks you should consider:
- Choose a moving date and book a moving company.
- Create a budget for the move and factor in all costs, including moving expenses, packing supplies, and other related costs.
- Declutter your home and get rid of items you no longer need or want. If you need a dumpster, just ask! We are happy to arrange one at no cost to you.
- Start packing non-essential items that you won’t need until after the move.
- Identify items that you will leave behind for True Neighbor to dispose of.
- Notify your utility providers of your upcoming move and arrange for disconnection and reconnection at your new home.
Four to Six Weeks Before Moving Day
As you get even closer to your move, there are a few things you need to do around this time. Here’s what to focus on:
- Contact your insurance company to update your homeowner’s or renter’s insurance.
- Research and arrange for new services, such as internet, phone, and cable at your new home.
- Start packing items that you don’t use frequently, such as seasonal clothing or decorations.
- Establish a space in your home to put the items you are leaving behind.
- Create an inventory of your belongings and label all boxes.
- Notify important contacts such as banks, schools, and healthcare providers of your new address.
Two to Four Weeks Before Moving Day
The last few weeks before your move may mean you’re feeling stressed. Ensure you stay ahead and stay organized. Here’s what to do two to four weeks out:
- Confirm your moving date and time with your moving company.
- Notify your employer of your move and request time off if necessary.
- Pack all non-essential items, including decorations and extra linens.
- Pack a box of essentials that you’ll need immediately after moving, such as toiletries and a change of clothes. (Label this box and ensure it’s not tucked away in the back of the moving truck)
One Week Before Moving Day
With just a week to go, it’s time to focus on the final details. Here’s what to do:
- Confirm all arrangements with your moving company.
- Empty your refrigerator and freezer, or leave the expired foods behind
- Pack a box with items you’ll need on moving day, such as snacks and water.
- Don’t worry about cleaning, you sold your home as is!
